AXLES Model
Align your Program to an Organizational Purpose. Do discovery work with your key stakeholders to determine the greatest talent needs in the organization, and the impact the culture might have on your program. The alignment process is focused on the extended investment, rather than a particular event.
Design the Experience. This includes Structure, Schedule, Matching, Learner Participation, and Mentor Participation, which all tie into the Program Charter. The Program Charter is the written structure of the program and outlines all of the components needed to build a successful program:
Purpose Statement
- Program Objectives
- Stakeholders
- Participants
- Benefits
- Support/Admin
- Criteria for Participation
- Structure/Schedule
- Matching Methods
- Program Onboarding
- Expected Investment
- Success Measures
- Any additional measures needed (communication plan, implementation plans, evaluation, etc)
Launch the Program. Implementing the program is an important milestone and essential to the overall experience of the participant. Launching includes providing the tools and information needed to create a robust and meaningful relationship between the mentor and mentee. Things to consider include:
- Launch options
- Live vs virtual
- Go big vs soft launch
- Relaxed vs business-like
- Guest speakers vs panelists
- Program materials
- Welcome guides
- Job descriptions, biographies
- Meeting templates
- Workbooks/toolkits
- Plans for structured checkpoints
- Conversation starters
Evaluate the Effectiveness of the Program. Plan how you will capture the data necessary to establish the successful aspects, as well as the growth opportunities, for the Program. Also create a plan for sharing this information with the stakeholders and participants.
Support the Program’s Participants. Consider what the mentors and mentees need to be successful and have a meaningful experience that will carry beyond the confines of the program participation. Develop and design your resources, webinars, videos or other support aids to provide your participants the tools they may need, to support their work during their time together.
